Bekonscot isn't just one village; there are six charming little villages in a 1.5 acre miniature landscape of farms and fields, castles and churches, woods and lakes! Walking around, you'll tower over the tiny population enjoying the fun of the fair, visiting the zoo, or lazily watching the cricket on the village green. As you walk down the High Street of Bekonscot town, you can peer into the tiny windows of the shops, near the busy garden railway station.
The models at Bekonscot are all approximately 1:12 scale - one inch to one foot. There is some slight variation, especially in the larger models such as the castles.
The model trains are built to Gauge 1 standards, being of 1:32 scale. You can read more about the UK's finest public outdoor garden model railway here.
All of the buildings that you see are created by modelmakers here at Bekonscot. Some are made from stone, some from wood, some from concrete, and some from a modern dense foam board. Some buildings have been here since the 1920s, whilst newer ones are added every year. Click to see 'behind the scenes'.
There are many working models, such as the coalmine, house on fire, fairground, windmills and tramway. Listen out too for the choir, brass band, morris men, and station announcer!
